New boats: Discovery 50 Catamaran

Discovery Yachts, UK has launched recently the new boat - Discovery 50 Catamaran. Luxury yacht features a very fine bow, sweeping deck profile and stunningly shaped windows which together provide an elegant and sleek profile, unique in its class. It is perfect for effortless sailing by just two people with complete safety and comfort. The hull configuration has been developed to ensure a comfortable sea motion and rapid passage making capability.Designed by the renowned Bill Dixon, with an interior styled by superyacht specialist Ken Freivokh, the Discovery 50 Cat is the first multihull from this highly respected British yard which has gained an enviable reputation for its 55 and 67 foot ocean going monohulls. The deck layout is designed for easy handing for two, while the forward facing navigation seat in the main saloon allows an all round view for passage watches from below.The Discovery 50 Cat is capable of cruising the world’s oceans in total luxury, certified to the European Recreational Craft Directive Category A (Ocean). It will be showcased at the Salon Atlantique du Multicoque (Atlantic Multihull Boat Show) set to take place in Lorient, France from 15th to 18th April 2010.

New boats: 50m Baracuda Sailing Yacht

50m Baracuda Sailing Yacht is a limited edition boat built by Ron Holland Design in cooperation with Perini Navi. Baracuda, a 50m aluminium ketch, was launched in October 2008 and it was nominated for the 2010 World Superyacht Awards for "Best Sailing Yacht in the 45 meter range. The boat’s interiors are based on extreme simplicity and clear lines created by British architect John Pawson.Its retracting keel passes from 4m to 9.7m and the transom door can be almost entirely opened up and transformed into a large swimming platform. This ketch also makes a strong visual impact on several fronts, primarily by the colour of the hull which is metallic grey with shades of gold, the unusual rectangular windows and the sails which come in flaming purple.

New boats: 26.85m Abacus 86

Sicilian yacht builder Abacus launches new boat - 26.85m Abacus86 flagship. Designed by Fulvio de Simoni is a super yacht with a waterline length of just under 24 metres, meaning it can still be driven by those in possession of a yacht master licence. The Abacus 86 offers a spacious four cabin layout with owners suite to mid ship, VIP to fore, and two guest cabins in between. Crew quarters with lobby and three berths is located to fore. Abacus also used the 86 to improve its construction standard, building the new flagship with infusion resin method by DIAB, and using the Besenzoni Sipario windows in the owners stateroom. The Abacus 86 is powered by twin Cats of 1825hp each which give a top speed of 33 knots, and a cruise of 30 knots. Rather fast considering the horse power and displacement of the new Abacus super yacht.
